Concord Fire Department Awards & Recognition Ceremony




The Concord Fire Department held their annual awards and recognition ceremony on Friday, March 30. Members of the Department, along with several community members, were recognized for their contributions in 2018.


Here is a list of the awards and recipients. You can also watch a video of the full ceremony on YouTube.

Helping Hands Awards

Mr. Phil Manseau for his assistance with a patient who had been struck by a car. He provided care before the arrival of Fire Department personnel, conveyed information, and continued to assist with care prior to the patient being transported to Concord Hospital.

Mr. Hunter Robinson for an Eagle Scout project for which he digitized all of the photographs in the Fire Department museum, created a web page and a social media page to display them, and provided digital photograph frames for their display in all of the Department’s facilities.

Mr. Bill Graham and Ms. Charlene Graham for their work in creating the Department’s “ten year photo” display by taking individual photos of the Department’s 100+ members as well as a photo of all front line apparatus in front of the State House.

Distinguished Service Award

Administrative Specialist Deborah Marcotte (Retired) for her 35 years of service to the Concord Fire Department.

Captain Ernest Petrin for his 29 years of service to the Concord Fire Department, including leading an emergency communications center serving 25 local governments and agencies.

Meritorious Service Award

Fire Marshal Paul Sirois and Assistant Fire Marshal Ken Kiehl for installing 556 alarm devices in 130 homes using 216 hours of their own time (as part of a service project for their union, the Concord Professional Firefighters Association) as part of the Get Alarmed New Hampshire grant.

Unit Citations

Battalion Chief Derek Kelleher, Lieutenant Bradley Newbery, Firefighter Paramedic John McBride, Firefighter Alex Matson, Firefighter Robert Andrews, Firefighter Ryan Odom for their work in extricating a patient from an automobile accident and their lifesaving care on River Road in Boscawen on July 4, 2018.

Battalion Chief Brian Saltmarsh, Captain Timothy Robinson, Lieutenant Merle DeWitt, Lieutenant Chris Johnson, Lieutenant Don Harpell, Firefighter David Currier, Firefighter Phil Tirrell, Jr., Firefighter James Pratt, Firefighter Paramedic James Farley, Firefighter Jonathan Sinclair, Firefighter Robert Martel, Firefighter Jeremy Baldwin, Firefighter Craig Coleman, Firefighter Paramedic Justin Kantar for rescuing a patient whose car had exited Interstate 93 and plunged into the Merrimack River, necessitating the use of a winch to move it closer to the surface to effect a rescue. The incident occurred on October 8, 2018.

Lieutenant Michael Pawlowski, Lieutenant Derek Martel, Firefighter Paramedic John McBride, Firefighter Alex Matson, Firefighter Patrick Richardson, Firefighter Robert Andrews, Firefighter Ryan Odom, Firefighter Jonathan Sinclair for the rescue and removal of a critically injured patient from an apartment fire on Bog Road on December 15, 2018.

Emergency Medical Services Excellence Award

Firefighter Paramedic John McBride and Firefighter Paramedic Justin Kantar for the lifesaving care of the patient injured in the River Road motor vehicle accident on July 4, 2018.

Firefighter Paramedic James Farley, Paramedic Eric Trottier (Penacook Rescue), Firefighter Robert Martel for the lifesaving care of the patient from the Bog Road building fire on December 15, 2018.

Rescue Medal

Lieutenant Michael Pawlowski, Firefighter Patrick Richardson, Firefighter Robert Andrews, Firefighter Ryan Odom for the rescue of the patient from the Bog Road Building fire on December 15, 2018.

This is the second time that the Rescue Medal has been awarded. It was awarded to Lieutenant Sean Brown, Firefighter James Cournoyer, Firefighter Derek Martel, and Firefighter Bradley Newbery for the rescue of a trapped person in a house fire on Rumford Street in March of 2009.

Lifesaving Medal

Firefighter Phillip Tirrell, Jr. for the rescue of the woman who was submerged in her vehicle in the Merrimack River on October 8, 2018.

This is the second time in Department history that the Lifesaving Medal has been awarded. Firefighter Christopher Johnson was awarded the Lifesaving Medal for the March 2003 rescue of a person submerged in water.

Firefighter of the Year

Firefighter Jonathan Sinclair for his record of consistently good performance as a firefighter and for department and community service serving as the treasurer of the Concord Firefighters Relief Association and leading the Department’s Explorer post for many years.
